While Gyles was away in England playing golf this past weekend I had the chance to do some adventurous stuff! I started my day by going to breakfast at La Braye Cafe in St. Ouen's with Parky and Ben, some of Gyles' mates here. They just love taking me out! I fueled up with a delicious veggie breakfast consisting of half of a grilled tomato, two hash browns, two eggs, two veggie sausages and toast. Of course I couldn't finish nearly half of that, but I was definitely feeling energized and ready to go! I was rocking a pair of my brand new Topshop Holiday Ankle Chain sandals, and according to Parky and Ben they weren't suitable for the adventure they had in store for me. So we stopped off at the house to pick up my lime green Urban Outfitters sneakers.
Fifteen minutes later we arrived at a parking lot, or a car park, at the top of what looked like an abandoned hill. We reached our final destination: the cliffs at Les Landes. We were at the most north-westerly point of the island where you can find the ruins of the Grosnez Castle, which was built between 1328 and 1330. Grosnez meaning "big nose" in Jersey/French. It was a beautiful surprise to end up there. The views were absolutely stunning. Breathtaking. Now I knew why I needed my sneakers...we were going cliff walking! This is my second trip to Jersey and my first time going walking alongside the rocky footpaths that travel along the edge of the cliffs. I can hear my mom now... There are tons and tons of footpaths to walk on, so I still have plenty to see and do while I'm here. I wasn't as risky as Ben while walking the cliff side, but I did encounter moments where I felt like one wrong step could send me sliding down the fluffy, green grass. We looked for burrows in the grass that usually are homes to the Puffin population, but we didn't see any Puffins on our hike. What I did encounter though was an interesting insect that covers itself in a mucus-like membrane that looks like someones spit! When I first reached the bottom of the steep, grassy hill I put my hand right into what I thought was Ben or Parky's nasty spit! Then I realized that it was everywhere. Once we finished lying in the grass taking in the beautiful, clear blue skies and the waves below we had to crawl back up the hill. This was a bit challenging because I had to keep sticking my hand in the mucus bug mess! It was thrilling though! Here are some more pictures!
It was super windy at times as you can see my hair was a mess, but I had a great time! After we walked back along the footpaths to the car we decided it was time for tasty, cold ice cream. I finished my Magnum Classic and headed back home for a much-needed nap. I'm not sure what's in store for me today, or the rest of this week but I will update you all as soon as I can! I miss everyone and love you all. Speak soon!
