Beth's 18th Bash

After a hectic day of cleaning, running errands, decorating and getting ready...we finally got to enjoy Beth's 18th birthday party. We were all concerned about the weather for the night, but it turned out to be a beautiful, fun evening. Not that I can remember much from it, but from what I can remember I had a really good time and so did everyone else. Cheers to all of the effort, time and money put into the party--it was worth every drop! All of Beth's friends and family friends started showing up around seven and by eight the marquee was full of people drinking and dancing. By the way, a marquee is a tent that they set up in the garden, or backyard, that you usually will see on someones lawn for a wedding or some other special occasion. For some reason every single one of Beth's guy friends absolutely adored my dad! Actually I know why because he's awesome and I really miss him now. He went back to Florida today at six in the morning. My little piece of home that I had here with me has gone back home, but it's okay I'll see him soon!! One of Beth's friends, Tom, told Beth he wishes that my dad was his dad. He was the hit of the party beside Beth who looked stunning in her one-of-a-kind dress! The only one on the island! The cake was another star of the night; however, we never did get to cut it at the party. I tried it the next morning though for breakfast and it was delicious and smooth. Two thick layers of soft, moist sponge cake layered between strawberry jam and cream with a nice, pink layer of frosting on the top. It's a traditional birthday cake here simply called sponge cake. Unless the occasion was different you would just order that, and I know now why no one ever strays from the sponge cake on a birthday. Mmm!! The Pontac House graciously provided the party with finger foods such as sausage rolls, mini pizza slices, tea sandwiches and crisps (chips!). It was all so tasty! The quickest thing to go at the party though was the vodka! To say the absolute least it was an amazing party and one that I won't soon forget.
